* all: Remove the "STATIC" macro and just use "static" instead.Angus Gratton2024-03-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The STATIC macro was introduced a very long time ago in commit d5df6cd44a433d6253a61cb0f987835fbc06b2de. The original reason for this was to have the option to define it to nothing so that all static functions become global functions and therefore visible to certain debug tools, so one could do function size comparison and other things. This STATIC feature is rarely (if ever) used. And with the use of LTO and heavy inline optimisation, analysing the size of individual functions when they are not static is not a good representation of the size of code when fully optimised. So the macro does not have much use and it's simpler to just remove it. Then you know exactly what it's doing. For example, newcomers don't have to learn what the STATIC macro is and why it exists. Reading the code is also less "loud" with a lowercase static. One other minor point in favour of removing it, is that it stops bugs with `STATIC inline`, which should always be `static inline`. Methodology for this commit was: 1) git ls-files | egrep '\.[ch]$' | \ xargs sed -Ei "s/(^| )STATIC($| )/\1static\2/" 2) Do some manual cleanup in the diff by searching for the word STATIC in comments and changing those back. 3) "git-grep STATIC docs/", manually fixed those cases. 4) "rg -t python STATIC", manually fixed codegen lines that used STATIC. * py/obj: Convert make_new into a mp_obj_type_t slot.Jim Mussared2022-09-19
| | | | | | | | | | | Instead of being an explicit field, it's now a slot like all the other methods. This is a marginal code size improvement because most types have a make_new (100/138 on PYBV11), however it improves consistency in how types are declared, removing the special case for make_new. * py/obj: Merge getiter and iternext mp_obj_type_t slots.Jim Mussared2022-09-19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The goal here is to remove a slot (making way to turn make_new into a slot) as well as reduce code size by the ~40 references to mp_identity_getiter and mp_stream_unbuffered_iter. This introduces two new type flags: - MP_TYPE_FLAG_ITER_IS_ITERNEXT: This means that the "iter" slot in the type is "iternext", and should use the identity getiter. - MP_TYPE_FLAG_ITER_IS_CUSTOM: This means that the "iter" slot is a pointer to a mp_getiter_iternext_custom_t instance, which then defines both getiter and iternext. And a third flag that is the OR of both, MP_TYPE_FLAG_ITER_IS_STREAM: This means that the type should use the identity getiter, and mp_stream_unbuffered_iter as iternext. Finally, MP_TYPE_FLAG_ITER_IS_GETITER is defined as a no-op flag to give the default case where "iter" is "getiter". Signed-off-by: Jim Mussared <jim.mussared@gmail.com>
* all: Make all mp_obj_type_t defs use MP_DEFINE_CONST_OBJ_TYPE.Jim Mussared2022-09-19
| | | | | | In preparation for upcoming rework of mp_obj_type_t layout. Signed-off-by: Jim Mussared <jim.mussared@gmail.com>
* all: Use mp_obj_malloc everywhere it's applicable.Jim Mussared2022-05-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This replaces occurences of foo_t *foo = m_new_obj(foo_t); foo->base.type = &foo_type; with foo_t *foo = mp_obj_malloc(foo_t, &foo_type); Excludes any places where base is a sub-field or when new0/memset is used. Signed-off-by: Jim Mussared <jim.mussared@gmail.com>
* all: Reformat C and Python source code with tools/codeformat.py.Damien George2020-02-28

* py/objenumerate: Check for valid args in enumerate constructor.Emil Renner Berthing2019-12-09
| | | | | For the case where MICROPY_CPYTHON_COMPAT is disabled. This fix makes basics/fun_error2.py pass and not crash the interpreter.
* py: Downcase all MP_OBJ_IS_xxx macros to make a more consistent C API.Damien George2019-02-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | These macros could in principle be (inline) functions so it makes sense to have them lower case, to match the other C API functions. The remaining macros that are upper case are: - MP_OBJ_TO_PTR, MP_OBJ_FROM_PTR - MP_OBJ_NEW_SMALL_INT, MP_OBJ_SMALL_INT_VALUE - MP_OBJ_NEW_QSTR, MP_OBJ_QSTR_VALUE - MP_OBJ_FUN_MAKE_SIG - MP_DECLARE_CONST_xxx - MP_DEFINE_CONST_xxx These must remain macros because they are used when defining const data (at least, MP_OBJ_NEW_SMALL_INT is so it makes sense to have MP_OBJ_SMALL_INT_VALUE also a macro). For those macros that have been made lower case, compatibility macros are provided for the old names so that users do not need to change their code immediately.
* all: Use the name MicroPython consistently in commentsAlexander Steffen2017-07-31
| | | | | There were several different spellings of MicroPython present in comments, when there should be only one.
* py: Add iter_buf to getiter type method.Damien George2017-02-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Allows to iterate over the following without allocating on the heap: - tuple - list - string, bytes - bytearray, array - dict (not dict.keys, dict.values, dict.items) - set, frozenset Allows to call the following without heap memory: - all, any, min, max, sum TODO: still need to allocate stack memory in bytecode for iter_buf.
* py: Use new code pattern for parsing kw args with mp_arg_parse_all.Damien George2016-01-13
| | | | Makes code easier to read and more maintainable.
* py: Change first arg of type.make_new from mp_obj_t to mp_obj_type_t*.Damien George2016-01-11
| | | | | | | | The first argument to the type.make_new method is naturally a uPy type, and all uses of this argument cast it directly to a pointer to a type structure. So it makes sense to just have it a pointer to a type from the very beginning (and a const pointer at that). This patch makes such a change, and removes all unnecessary casting to/from mp_obj_t.
* py: Change type of .make_new and .call args: mp_uint_t becomes size_t.Damien George2016-01-11
| | | | | | | This patch changes the type signature of .make_new and .call object method slots to use size_t for n_args and n_kw (was mp_uint_t. Makes code more efficient when mp_uint_t is larger than a machine word. Doesn't affect ports when size_t and mp_uint_t have the same size.
* py: Wrap all obj-ptr conversions in MP_OBJ_TO_PTR/MP_OBJ_FROM_PTR.Damien George2015-11-29
| | | | | | | | | This allows the mp_obj_t type to be configured to something other than a pointer-sized primitive type. This patch also includes additional changes to allow the code to compile when sizeof(mp_uint_t) != sizeof(void*), such as using size_t instead of mp_uint_t, and various casts.

* | py: Add keyword arg support to enumerate constructor.Damien George2014-05-06
|/ | | | | | | | Need to have a policy as to how far we go adding keyword support to built ins. It's nice to have, and gets better CPython compatibility, but hurts the micro nature of uPy. Addresses issue #577.
* Add license header to (almost) all files.Damien George2014-05-03
| | | | | | | Blanket wide to all .c and .h files. Some files originating from ST are difficult to deal with (license wise) so it was left out of those. Also merged modpyb.h, modos.h, modstm.h and modtime.h in stmhal/.
* py: Add MP_OBJ_STOP_ITERATION and make good use of it.Damien George2014-04-17
| | | | | Also make consistent use of MP_OBJ_NOT_SUPPORTED and MP_OBJ_NULL. This helps a lot in debugging and understanding of function API.
* Rename rt_* to mp_*.Damien George2014-03-30
| | | | | | | Mostly just a global search and replace. Except rt_is_true which becomes mp_obj_is_true. Still would like to tidy up some of the names, but this will do for now.
* py: Rename old const type objects to mp_type_* for consistency.Damien George2014-03-29

* py: Replace mp_const_stop_iteration object with MP_OBJ_NULL.Damien George2014-03-26
|
* py: Clean up includes.xbe2014-03-17
| | | | Remove unnecessary includes. Add includes that improve portability.
* Implement proper exception type hierarchy.Damien George2014-02-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Each built-in exception is now a type, with base type BaseException. C exceptions are created by passing a pointer to the exception type to make an instance of. When raising an exception from the VM, an instance is created automatically if an exception type is raised (as opposed to an exception instance). Exception matching (RT_BINARY_OP_EXCEPTION_MATCH) is now proper. Handling of parse error changed to match new exceptions. mp_const_type renamed to mp_type_type for consistency.
* Change mp_obj_type_t.name from const char * to qstr.Damien George2014-02-15
| | | | | | Ultimately all static strings should be qstr. This entry in the type structure is only used for printing error messages (to tell the type of the bad argument), and printing objects that don't supply a .print method.
* Replace global "static" -> "STATIC", to allow "analysis builds". Part 1.Paul Sokolovsky2014-02-12
| | | | | | | | Some tools do not support local/static symbols (one example is GNU ld map file). Exposing all functions will allow to do detailed size comparisons, etc. Also, added bunch of statics where they were missing, and replaced few identity functions with global mp_identity().
* Revamp qstrs: they now include length and hash.Damien George2014-01-21
| | | | | Can now have null bytes in strings. Can define ROM qstrs per port using qstrdefsport.h
* Make VM stack grow upwards, and so no reversed args arrays.Damien George2014-01-18
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Change state layout in VM so the stack starts at state[0] and grows upwards. Locals are at the top end of the state and number downwards. This cleans up a lot of the interface connecting the VM to C: now all functions that take an array of Micro Python objects are in order (ie no longer in reverse). Also clean up C API with keyword arguments (call_n and call_n_kw replaced with single call method that takes keyword arguments). And now make_new takes keyword arguments. emitnative.c has not yet been changed to comply with the new order of stack layout.
