* gh-108765: Cleanup #include in Python/*.c files (#108977)Victor Stinner2023-09-06
| | | Mention one symbol imported by each #include.
* gh-104263: Rely on Py_NAN and introduce Py_INFINITY (GH-104202)Sebastian Berg2023-05-10
| | | | | | | | | | This PR removes `_Py_dg_stdnan` and `_Py_dg_infinity` in favour of using the standard `NAN` and `INFINITY` macros provided by C99. This change has the side-effect of fixing a bug on MIPS where the hard-coded value used by `_Py_dg_stdnan` gave a signalling NaN rather than a quiet NaN. --------- Co-authored-by: Mark Dickinson <dickinsm@gmail.com>
* bpo-45995: add "z" format specifer to coerce negative 0 to zero (GH-30049)John Belmonte2022-04-11
| | | | | | | | Add "z" format specifier to coerce negative 0 to zero. See https://github.com/python/cpython/issues/90153 (originally https://bugs.python.org/issue45995) for discussion. This covers `str.format()` and f-strings. Old-style string interpolation is not supported. Co-authored-by: Mark Dickinson <dickinsm@gmail.com>
* bpo-46656: Remove Py_NO_NAN macro (GH-31160)Victor Stinner2022-02-25
| | | | Building Python now requires support for floating point Not-a-Number (NaN): remove the Py_NO_NAN macro.
* bpo-45412: Add _PY_SHORT_FLOAT_REPR macro (GH-31171)Victor Stinner2022-02-23
| | | | | | | | | | Remove the HAVE_PY_SET_53BIT_PRECISION macro (moved to the internal C API). * Move HAVE_PY_SET_53BIT_PRECISION macro to pycore_pymath.h. * Replace PY_NO_SHORT_FLOAT_REPR macro with _PY_SHORT_FLOAT_REPR macro which is always defined. gcc -Wundef emits a warning when using _PY_SHORT_FLOAT_REPR but the macro is not defined, if pycore_pymath.h include was forgotten.
* bpo-45412: Move _Py_SET_53BIT_PRECISION_START to pycore_pymath.h (GH-28882)Victor Stinner2021-10-11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move the following macros , to pycore_pymath.h (internal C API): * _Py_SET_53BIT_PRECISION_HEADER * _Py_SET_53BIT_PRECISION_START * _Py_SET_53BIT_PRECISION_END PEP 7: add braces to if and "do { ... } while (0)" in these macros. Move also _Py_get_387controlword() and _Py_set_387controlword() definitions to pycore_pymath.h. These functions are no longer exported. pystrtod.c now includes pycore_pymath.h.
* bpo-42519: Replace PyMem_MALLOC() with PyMem_Malloc() (GH-23586)Victor Stinner2020-12-01
| | | | | | | | | | | No longer use deprecated aliases to functions: * Replace PyMem_MALLOC() with PyMem_Malloc() * Replace PyMem_REALLOC() with PyMem_Realloc() * Replace PyMem_FREE() with PyMem_Free() * Replace PyMem_Del() with PyMem_Free() * Replace PyMem_DEL() with PyMem_Free() Modify also the PyMem_DEL() macro to use directly PyMem_Free().
* bpo-35081: Move dtoa.h header to the internal C API (GH-18489)Victor Stinner2020-02-12
| | | | | | | Move the dtoa.h header file to the internal C API as pycore_dtoa.h: it only contains private functions (prefixed by "_Py"). The math and cmath modules must now be compiled with the Py_BUILD_CORE macro defined.
* bpo-38835: Don't use PyFPE_START_PROTECT and PyFPE_END_PROTECT (GH-17231)Victor Stinner2019-11-20
| | | | | The PyFPE_START_PROTECT() and PyFPE_END_PROTECT() macros are empty: they have been doing nothing for the last year (since commit 735ae8d139a673b30b321dc10acfd3d14f0d633b), so stop using them.
* bpo-27268: Fix incorrect error message on float('') (GH-2745)Pedro Lacerda2019-05-17

* bpo-35436: Add missing PyErr_NoMemory() calls and other minor bug fixes. ↵Zackery Spytz2018-12-07

|
* bpo-34087: Fix buffer overflow in int(s) and similar functions (GH-8274)INADA Naoki2018-07-14
| | | | | | `_PyUnicode_TransformDecimalAndSpaceToASCII()` missed trailing NUL char. It caused buffer overflow in `_Py_string_to_number_with_underscores()`. This bug is introduced in 9b6c60cb.

* Fix strncpy warning with gcc 8 (#5840)Siddhesh Poyarekar2018-03-06
| | | | | The length in strncpy is one char too short and as a result it leads to a build warning with gcc 8. Comment out the strncpy since the interpreter aborts immediately after anyway.

* Internal plumbing changes for float parsing:Mark Dickinson2009-04-26
| | | | | | - check for nans and infs within PyOS_ascii_strtod - simplify parsing in PyFloat_FromString, and handle out-of-memory errors properly
* Issue #5816: Simplify code for parsing and printing of complex numbers.Mark Dickinson2009-04-23
| | | | | nans and infs are no longer given special treatment; as a result, repr(complex(z)) recovers z for any complex number z.

* The other half of Issue #1580: use short float repr where possible.Eric Smith2009-04-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Addresses the float -> string conversion, using David Gay's code which was added in Mark Dickinson's checkin r71663. Also addresses these, which are intertwined with the short repr changes: - Issue #5772: format(1e100, '<') produces '1e+100', not '1.0e+100' - Issue #5515: 'n' formatting with commas no longer works poorly with leading zeros. - PEP 378 Format Specifier for Thousands Separator: implemented for floats.
* Added ',' thousands grouping to int.__format__. See PEP 378.Eric Smith2009-04-03
| | | | | | | | | This is incomplete, but I want to get some version into the next alpha. I am still working on: Documentation. More tests. Implement for floats. In addition, there's an existing bug with 'n' formatting that carries forward to thousands grouping (issue 5515).

Adds 'n' as a format specifier for integers, to mirror the same specifier which is already available for floats. 'n' is the same as 'd', but inserts the current locale-specific thousands grouping. I added this as a stringlib function, but it's only used by str type, not unicode. This is because of an implementation detail in unicode.format(), which does its own str->unicode conversion. But the unicode version will be needed in 3.0, and it may be needed by other code eventually in 2.6 (maybe decimal?), so I left it as a stringlib implementation. As long as the unicode version isn't instantiated, there's no overhead for this. ........
